A recent national NBC News poll indicates that voters are less likely to support candidates who say former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election or who support the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade. The top issues for voters in this election include the economy, inflation, abortion, immigration, and democracy. Economic proposals such as expanding domestic oil and natural gas production, implementing a $6,000 federal child tax credit, and taxing large corporations making record profits are popular among voters. However, tariffs as high as 20% on goods from all countries are less popular.
Election denialism, such as claiming Trump won the election, is unpopular among voters across swing groups, except for Trump’s voter base. On immigration, voters support deploying the military to the border to stop illegal activities and increasing deportations of undocumented immigrants. When it comes to abortion, voters prefer candidates who advocate for a federal law restoring a nationwide right to an abortion, while they are against the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
The poll also shows that Trump is in a close race with Vice President Kamala Harris, with both candidates receiving support from 48% of voters. Trump is favored on handling the cost of living and immigration, while Harris is favored on abortion, competency, and representing change. The survey of 1,000 registered voters conducted from Oct. 4-8 has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
