Rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested in Florida by U.S. Marshals on a charge of murder for hire. This arrest comes as five people associated with Durk’s hip hop collective, “Only the Family,” were also arrested on a federal indictment in California for committing a murder for hire as revenge.
The indictment alleges that on Nov. 6, 2020, a high-ranking member of OTF was killed during a fight in Atlanta. Following the death, a co-conspirator made it clear that they would pay a reward to anyone who killed the person involved in the murder. On August 18, 2022, after learning of the target’s location in Los Angeles, the five men traveled from Chicago to attempt to carry out the murder. Unfortunately, they ended up killing someone else who was in the target’s vehicle.
The charging document states that the group used various interstate facilities, including planes, cars, cell phones, and the internet, with the intent of committing the murder. The indictment includes charges of conspiracy, use of interstate facilities for murder for hire, possession of firearms, and criminal forfeiture.
It is not immediately clear if the men have legal representation. Despite the seriousness of the charges, Lil Durk and the other suspects have not made any public statements regarding the situation. The case remains ongoing as the legal process unfolds.
