Sophia Burnett, a graduate student at the University of South Carolina, achieved a career-best solo third finish at the Landfall Tradition golf tournament in Wilmington, N.C. She competed alongside her younger sister, Camila, who is a redshirted sophomore. Sophia posted a new career-low 54-hole score of 212 (-4), opening a two-shot lead after the first two rounds with scores of 68 and 67.
The conditions were challenging in the final round, with only three players breaking par in rainy weather. Ultimately, Sophia finished behind co-champions Lauren Olivares Leon of NC State and Lottie Woad of Florida State, who both finished at 6-under. Despite her strong performance, South Carolina’s team did not participate in the tournament.
Camila Burnett also made her Gamecock debut at the event, finishing T-80th with scores of 75-76-83. The sisters represented South Carolina well as individuals in the competition, showcasing their skills on the course. Florida State claimed the team title by a narrow margin over Duke.
The Landfall Tradition was a successful outing for the Burnett sisters, with Sophia achieving a career milestone and Camila gaining valuable experience in collegiate competition. Their performance highlights the talent and potential of the South Carolina women’s golf team as they continue to compete in the fall season.
