A man from Midlands, S.C. recently won half a million dollars from a South Carolina Education Lottery ticket. The lucky winner, who chose to remain anonymous, plans to use his winnings to buy a new house. He purchased the $10 Shimmering Riches ticket at Broad River Mart in Columbia on Oct. 30 and was shocked to see he had won. The man expressed disbelief when he saw the large sum in his bank account. South Carolina is one of the states that allows lottery winners to remain anonymous, along with others such as Arizona, Delaware, and Texas.
The Broad River Mart also received a commission of $5,000 for selling the winning ticket. There are three remaining $500,000 prizes in the Shimmering Riches game, with odds of one in 1,128,000. The winner’s unexpected windfall has left him with exciting plans for the future as he begins his search for a new home.
