University of South Carolina’s Clayton White Selected as Semifinalist for Broyles Award

University of South Carolina’s defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach Clayton White has been named as one of the 15 semifinalists for the prestigious Broyles Award, which recognizes the top assistant coach in college football. White has been instrumental in leading the Gamecocks to success this season, with a strong defensive unit that ranks among the best in the country.

With a veteran defensive lineup that includes standout players like Debo Williams, Alex Huntley, and Nick Emmanwori, White has helped the Gamecocks achieve impressive rankings in various defensive categories such as scoring defense, total defense, and sacks. The team’s recent success, including six straight wins and a 9-3 overall record, has propelled them to their highest rankings in the Associated Press and AFCA Coaches’ polls since 2014.

The Broyles Award selection committee, which includes former head coaches and representatives from the Football Writers Association of America, will narrow down the list of semifinalists to five finalists before announcing the overall winner. The award ceremony is set to take place at Oaklawn in Arkansas in February 2025, with proceeds supporting the Broyles Foundation’s mission to provide resources to Alzheimer’s caregivers.

White’s leadership and impact on the Gamecocks’ defense have not gone unnoticed, as he continues to make strides in the coaching world. As a semifinalist for the Broyles Award, White’s contributions to South Carolina’s success on the field are being recognized at a national level, cementing his position as one of college football’s top assistant coaches.
