In the final stretch of the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign outpaced President-elect Donald Trump’s in fundraising and spending. During the period of Oct. 25 through Nov. 25, Harris raised $160 million and spent $277 million, while Trump raised $87 million and spent $113 million. The largest shares of spending for both campaigns went to media buys and ad production, with the Harris campaign also heavily investing in directly contacting voters through text messages, canvassing, phone calls, and direct mail. However, after losing the election, Harris’ campaign continued to raise millions from small-dollar donors, sparking criticism and questions about the campaign’s financial decisions.
The Harris campaign also spent heavily on events, paying for high-profile rallies featuring celebrities like Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Katy Perry, Ricky Martin, and Christina Aguilera. The campaign faced backlash for continuing to send fundraising pitches after the election, with clashes among campaign officials and allies over the purpose of the funds raised. However, the latest financial reports show that the Harris campaign did not accrue any debt during the election cycle.
Harris’ super PAC, Future Forward, raised and spent over $163 million between Oct. 17 and Nov. 25, closing the period with $47 million in debt. On the other hand, Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., raised $347 million in 2024, with $6.9 million left in its account after the election. Other pro-Trump super PACs associated with major donors also raised and spent heavily in the final days of the election. The Democratic National Committee closed the period with more than $47 million on hand after receiving contributions and transfers from the Harris campaign and its affiliated committees.
