Appalachian State brings on Dowell Loggains as head coach after stint as South Carolina offensive coordinator

Appalachian State University has named Dowell Loggains as their new head football coach, replacing Shawn Clark who was fired after a disappointing 5-6 season. Loggains, previously the offensive coordinator at South Carolina, brings a wealth of experience from his time in the NFL and as a coach at various universities. Athletic director Doug Gillin praised Loggains’ leadership, play-calling skills, and recruiting abilities, noting that he aligns with the school’s core values.

During his time at South Carolina, Loggains led an offense highlighted by standout players LaNorris Sellers and Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, resulting in the SEC’s third-ranked rushing offense. In the NFL, he worked with top quarterbacks like Sam Darnold and Jay Cutler. The Mountaineers, who were preseason favorites in the Sun Belt Conference’s East Division, finished tied for fifth in league play.

With Loggains at the helm, Appalachian State fans can expect a renewed focus on achieving excellence both on and off the field. The university looks forward to a successful partnership with their new head coach.
