Jackson County Park manager Carl Barnes recently updated members of the Jackson County Master Gardeners on tree damage in the area caused by 2009 windstorm and 2011 tornadoes and strong storms. The Master Gardeners group plans to plant trees in the park in 2012 to celebrate their 30th anniversary. During the meeting, Jerry Akins gave a presentation on plant propagation.
Jack Remick was recognized for becoming a Master Gardener and was presented with a certificate. Sheila Reed, an employee of the National Park Service at Russell Cave National Monument, will be the guest speaker at the February meeting to discuss wild edible plants and berries. The next Master Gardeners class is set to begin in March.
