In a tough match-up, the South Carolina Gamecocks volleyball team fell to the Arkansas Razorbacks in three sets on Friday night. The Gamecocks struggled offensively, hitting a season-low .073 with only 25 kills.
The first set saw Arkansas take control early, out-hitting South Carolina .519 to .034 and securing a 25-13 win. Razorbacks’ Olivia Ruy shone with nine kills in nine swings. In the second set, Arkansas continued their dominance with a 25-16 victory, maintaining a solid lead throughout.
Despite a competitive third set with 13 ties and three lead changes, Arkansas closed out the match with a 25-23 win. South Carolina’s defense improved, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Razorbacks.
Notable highlights included Olivia Ruy’s impressive performance with 17 kills and Arkansas’ strong dig game, outperforming the Gamecocks 66-43. Alayna Johnson and Victoria Harris had standout performances for South Carolina, but it wasn’t sufficient to secure a victory.
Looking ahead, the Gamecocks will face the SEC leaders Missouri on Sunday. The Tigers are coming off a win against No. 9 Texas and have maintained an eight-game SEC win streak. With a tough opponent looming, South Carolina will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Arkansas and secure a victory on the road.
