Boise Airport has remained operational despite foggy conditions thanks to the Category Three Instrument Landing System technology installed in 2015. This system allows pilots to land planes even in low visibility by guiding them to the runway through instruments when they cannot see it with their own eyes. Boise Airport has the highest level of this technology installed, allowing pilots to get as low as 300 feet to the ground in poor visibility. Only 64 airports in the country have this advanced technology. Kevin Morris, an aviation safety expert from the Federal Aviation Administration, highlighted the importance of this technology in ensuring smoother landings in adverse weather conditions. This technology helps to reduce travel delays caused by poor visibility, giving passengers assurance that their flights will not be delayed due to weather conditions. Overall, the installation of the Category Three Instrument Landing System has proven to be a valuable asset in ensuring the safe and timely operation of Boise Airport during foggy conditions, making it more efficient for both passengers and airlines during this busy holiday season.
