Wildfires raging in North and South Carolina prompt evacuations and state of emergency

The National Weather Service issued “increased fire danger” alerts for North and South Carolina as over 170 wildfires have been raging across both states since last weekend. Evacuations have been ordered, and a state of emergency has been declared in response to the fires.

The largest fire in South Carolina has burned over 2,000 acres and threatened the Carolina Forest area near Myrtle Beach. Dry fuels, limited rainfall, and low humidity have contributed to the spread of fires in the region.

While no injuries or building losses have been reported, firefighters are working to contain the blazes. South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency and issued a statewide burn ban to protect communities and ensure first responders have the resources they need.

In North Carolina, all wildfires have been reported as contained to some degree. Forecasters warn that fire danger could continue if dry weather persists. The fires are not uncommon in the Carolinas, with weather conditions contributing to the spread of wildfires.Residents are advised to be cautious and stay informed as emergency officials continue to monitor the situation.
