Initial poll indicates that South Carolina’s lieutenant governor is in the lead for the 2026 election

A recent political poll conducted by The Trafalgar Group has revealed that South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evett is currently the frontrunner among Republican voters in the state’s 2026 gubernatorial race. The survey, which polled 1,127 “likely” Republican voters in March, showed that over 31% of respondents favored Evette. U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace followed closely behind with 29.1% support, while Attorney General Alan Wilson and U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman received 27.9% and 11% respectively.

The poll also highlighted the strong support for President Donald Trump among South Carolina Republicans, with a majority of participants expressing approval of his work in office so far. Additionally, the survey revealed that the majority of respondents were over the age of 65 and identified as white, with a 2.9% margin of error.

As the race for the governor’s seat heats up, Evette’s early lead in the polls positions her as a strong contender for the Republican nomination. With Mace and Wilson trailing closely behind, the competition for the GOP ticket promises to be a closely watched and highly contested affair. With several high-profile candidates vying for the nomination, South Carolina Republicans have a diverse and competitive field to choose from as they look towards the 2026 election.
