The South Carolina Forestry Commission has resumed its efforts to contain the Carolina Forest wildfire, taking over from the Florida Forest Service Incident Management Team. The Florida team spoke with confidence about SCFC’s ability to quickly extinguish the fire. On Thursday, SCFC crews will focus on extinguishing contained spots and identifying hot spots within the fire’s perimeter. Additionally, machinery will be used to turn greenery into mulch in a process called mastication. The fire, which covers 2,059 acres, remains 80% contained. SCFC staff will continue monitoring the fire until they are sure it poses no threat. Though the red lines on the map do not necessarily indicate active fire, they are close to residential areas due to difficult accessibility. Residents are advised to stay away from the area as crews continue their work. Stay tuned to WMBF News for the latest updates on the wildfire.
