South Carolina residents now have a new tool to make recycling easier with the launch of the ‘Recycle Here SC’ mobile app. Developed by the S.C. Department of Environmental Services, Palmetto Pride, and the S.C. Beverage Association, this app provides information on what, where, and how to recycle different items at locations across the state.
The app allows users to search for recycling locations and programs within their counties, filter locations based on items to be recycled, sign up for notifications about special collection events, and learn about recycling programs. It aims to reduce confusion and contamination of recyclable materials by providing easy access to recycling information.
Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette commented on the launch, stating that the app equips South Carolinians with a powerful tool to make recycling more accessible and efficient. Funding for the app was provided through the Solid Waste Infrastructure or Recycling (SWIFR) grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
For residents without access to the app, the SCDES website offers a list of county and city recycling locations. The app complements existing county-level recycling apps, focusing on providing statewide information.
The ‘Recycle Here SC’ app is a step towards promoting sustainability and reducing waste in South Carolina, making it easier for residents to participate in recycling efforts and keep the environment clean.
