Attendees of the cook-off showcase their favorite dishes

Kynlea Compton, a 7-year-old from Muskogee, was busy serving up brisket at the Exchange Club of Muskogee’s Chili & BBQ Cook-Off, held at Hatbox Field. The event, in its 41st year, raises money for children’s charities. The Okie Eggers booth was a popular stop for barbecue enthusiasts, serving slow-cooked chicken wings, brisket, and ribs. Okie Eggers took home the Grand Champion title, with team member Kristi Hoos expressing pride in their tradition of winning awards and slow cooking their food in 50-gallon cans.

Visitors also enjoyed ribs, chicken, and macaroni and cheese at the Ruckus Q booth, where mother and son duo Christina and Josiah Pearson were especially impressed with the mac and cheese. Insurance Agent Don David added a Cajun flair to his booth, offering sausage and beans with South Louisiana seasoning.

The event brought together barbecue fans like Steve Lange, who enjoyed sampling the various dishes without picking a favorite. Hoos highlighted the joy her husband Tracy Hoos and friends find in cooking for the event each year, noting that they stick to their tried-and-true recipes. With the success of Okie Eggers and the variety of offerings at the Cook-Off, it was clear that Muskogee residents had a fantastic weekend enjoying delicious barbecue and supporting a good cause.
