University of South Carolina Wins 2024-25 Palmetto Series Trophy
Columbia, SC – The University of South Carolina (USC) has claimed the 2024-25 Palmetto Series trophy, defeating rival Clemson University in a head-to-head points competition by a final tally of 7-4. The Gamecocks triumphed in multiple sports, including football, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s golf, and volleyball, while also securing points for having the most LIFE Scholarship recipients.
USC Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati expressed pride in the achievement. “Winning the Palmetto Series reflects the commitment of our student-athletes and the broad-based success we aim to achieve,” he said, emphasizing the importance of the South Carolina Education Lottery, which sponsors the series.
The trophy presentation is scheduled for September 6 during the football game against South Carolina State, further amplifying the significance of the victory. With this win, the Gamecocks have now extended their lead in the overall Palmetto Series to 6-1.
Dolly Garfield, Executive Director of the South Carolina Education Lottery, congratulated both universities for a stellar year of competition. “Like many South Carolinians, I eagerly look forward to these matchups. This rivalry never disappoints, and fans from both sides have much to celebrate,” she noted.
The Palmetto Series, which began in August and concluded in May, awarded points based on the outcome of matchups between the two schools. Points were also distributed for the highest number of lottery scholarship recipients and entries into the Lottery’s Carolina vs. Clemson promotion, showcasing not just athletic prowess but also academic achievements.
As the Gamecocks revel in their victory, anticipation builds for next year’s competition.
