Three Arrested for SNAP Benefits Fraud in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) has announced the arrest of three individuals for fraudulently obtaining Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in unrelated cases across Sumter, Orangeburg, and Berkeley counties.

Shareita Johnson, 38, from Sumter County, faces charges for the fraudulent acquisition of over $48,000 in food stamp benefits. She has been booked at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center and will be prosecuted by the 3rd Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Jessica Shanay Snider, 35, of Orangeburg County, allegedly received $25,115 in benefits improperly. She is currently held at the Orangeburg County Detention Center and will face prosecution by the First Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Tabatha Brook Wyndham, 33, from Berkeley County, was charged for unlawfully acquiring $34,419 in SNAP benefits. She is in custody at the Berkeley County Detention Center, with her case to be prosecuted by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

DSS officials encourage anyone with knowledge of SNAP fraud to report it by calling the DSS fraud hotline at 1-800-694-8518 or online at dss.sc.gov.
