South Carolina Track & Field Shines at Charlotte Invitational
Charlotte, N.C. – April 26, 2025 – The South Carolina Track & Field teams put on an impressive performance at the Charlotte Invitational, securing runner-up finishes for both men’s and women’s divisions in the opening outdoor meet of the season. The women’s team accumulated 156 points, while the men scored 127.5 points, coming in second to Charlotte and North Carolina, respectively.
Highlighting the women’s success, Cynteria James and JaMeesia Ford each clinched two individual event titles. James sprinted to victory in the 100 meters with a time of 11.31 seconds, while Ford dominated the 400 meters with a personal best of 51.09 seconds. Joslyn Hamilton also showcased exceptional talent, claiming first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal record of 59.34 and finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles, earning her a top spot in Gamecock history.
The women’s team concluded the day spectacularly, with the 4×400 meter relay team of Zaya Akins, Cynteria James, Jayla Jamison, and Joslyn Hamilton winning in 3:35.38, marking one of their fastest relay times of the season.
On the men’s side, Theo Mudzengerere stood out by winning the triple jump with a season-best leap of 16.07 meters. The men’s relay teams excelled as well, sweeping both the 4×100 and 4×400 events, contributing significantly to their point total.
The Gamecocks will look to build on this momentum as they head to Jacksonville, Fla., for the East Coast Relays at the University of North Florida, starting on May 2. This event serves as the precursor to the NCAA East Regional later this month.
