Solar Bears Display Resilience, Advance in Kelly Cup Playoffs
In a remarkable comeback, the Orlando Solar Bears overcame a 2-0 series deficit to win four of the next five games against the South Carolina Stingrays in the Kelly Cup playoffs. Goaltender Jon Gillies was pivotal in the series, showcasing his veteran experience from 35 NHL games and delivering a standout performance, including a rare shutout at the Stingrays’ home venue, which had not seen a shutout in over two years.
"Gillies has been a true professional," remarked head coach Carkner. "He prepares meticulously, and the team has complete trust in him." Despite the Stingrays’ relentless offensive efforts, Gillies’ solid play, complemented by defensive support, thwarted South Carolina’s momentum.
Stingrays coach Jared Nightingale praised his team’s effort and the outstanding performance of goalie Seth Eisele, who made 24 stops in a challenging game. "Seth battled hard and gave us a chance to win," Nightingale said, reflecting on the bittersweet end to a competitive season.
As the Solar Bears celebrate their victory, both teams acknowledge the hard-fought series, embodying the spirit of resilience and teamwork in professional hockey.
