Poll Reveals Divided Opinions Among SC Voters on President Trump’s Performance

Poll Reveals Deep Division Among South Carolinians on Trump’s Performance

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A recent poll conducted by Winthrop University reveals that South Carolinians remain sharply divided over President Donald Trump’s performance as he reaches the 100-day mark in his current term. The survey indicates that 44% of respondents view his performance positively, while 43% express negative sentiments—a trend that mirrors national polling results.

Comparatively, a Winthrop poll from 2017 recorded a 47% disapproval rating for Trump at the same stage of his first term. This year’s poll also highlights significant divisions on various social issues.

Key findings from the poll show that 71% of respondents support implementing restrictions on transgender athletes, and 62% favor legislative protections for transgender individuals. Additionally, 56% support policies mandating that transgender individuals use public restrooms corresponding to their sex assigned at birth, while 50% advocate for restrictions on gender identity education in elementary schools.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) received a positive approval rating from only 37% of participants, with nearly half (47%) believing the nation is on the “wrong track.”

Winthrop Poll Director Dr. Scott Huffmon noted that opinions regarding the country’s direction are often influenced by political alignment. “This is true at both the national and state level,” he said. He emphasized that dissatisfaction may persist even among those whose party holds power, due to perceived impediments to achieving political goals.

The poll surveyed 1,546 people and carries a margin of error of 2.49%. As the political landscape evolves, these findings highlight the ongoing challenges and divisions within South Carolina.
