Gamecocks Emerge Victorious Against Charleston Southern with a Late-Inning Surge

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team showcased its resilience on Tuesday night, securing a 5-3 win over Charleston Southern at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park. The triumph was highlighted by a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, alongside standout pitching from Jarvis Evans Jr.

The Gamecocks struck first in the second inning as Beau Hollins crossed home plate on a wild pitch, establishing a 1-0 lead that held firm until the seventh. The pivotal inning began with Gavin Braland’s single, advancing him to second on a sacrifice bunt. With the bases loaded, Henry Kaczmar was hit by a pitch, and KJ Scobey drew a walk, allowing Kennedy Jones to push a run across. Evan Stone’s clutch single drove in two more runs, with pinch runner Blake Jackson adding the final tally on a failed pickoff attempt.

Despite Charleston Southern’s efforts to close the gap with two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth, Brendan Sweeney secured the win with a flyout, marking his sixth save of the season. Evans delivered an impressive performance on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing just two hits, and striking out one.

Kaczmar led the offense with two hits, while Stone contributed significantly with two RBIs. The victory improved Carolina’s midweek performance to an impressive 12-1 for the season.

Looking ahead, South Carolina will begin a three-game series against Florida this Friday night at 7 p.m., with the game available on SEC Network Plus.

As the Gamecocks navigate through the season, fans are eager to see how they will build on this momentum.
