COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina baseball team secured a 5-3 victory against Charleston Southern on Tuesday night, April 29, at Ray Tanner Field. The win highlighted a strong performance by starting pitcher Jarvis Evans Jr., who delivered 5.2 innings, allowing no runs and just two hits while recording a strikeout.
The Gamecocks opened the scoring in the second inning with Beau Hollins crossing home plate on a wild pitch. The situation intensified in the seventh as Carolina scored four runs. Gavin Braland started the inning with a single, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. The bases loaded with a hit by pitch and a walk, leading to a run from Kennedy Jones. Evan Stone followed up with a single, driving in two more runs, with Blake Jackson scoring on a failed pickoff attempt.
Although Charleston Southern rallied with two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth, closer Brendan Sweeney secured the win with a flyout, marking his sixth save of the season. Caleb Jones and Ryder Garino also contributed significantly, helping the Gamecocks maintain their 12-1 midweek record.
