Three Charged with SNAP Fraud in South Carolina
Columbia, SC — The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) has announced the arrest of three individuals charged with fraudulently obtaining Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits through deceitful means.
In Sumter County, Shareita Johnson is accused of submitting 41 fake pay stubs from GPM Investments, claiming income between $448 and $575 per pay period. Investigations uncovered her actual earnings far exceeded those figures, leading to an overpayment of $48,007 in benefits. She now faces charges for fraudulent acquisition of more than $10,000 in food stamps.
Similarly, Jessica Snider from Orangeburg County failed to report her income from Stratosphere Quality in six recertification forms, resulting in a $25,115 overpayment in SNAP benefits. She, too, is charged with fraudulent food stamp acquisition.
In Berkeley County, Tabatha Wyndham has been charged after it was found she neglected to report her income from Coastal Pediatric Associates and her husband’s earnings. This failure led to a $34,419 overpayment in SNAP benefits.
All three cases are set to be prosecuted by their respective judicial circuit solicitor’s offices, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat SNAP fraud in the state.
