Vice President Vance and EPA Administrator Zeldin Tour Nucor Steel Facility in South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. — On May 1, Vice President JD Vance and Lee Zeldin, the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will visit the Nucor Steel Berkeley plant in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. The facility is located near the Huger community, approximately 34 miles north of Charleston.
During their visit, Vance and Zeldin will deliver remarks aimed at showcasing "America’s manufacturing renaissance" as the Trump Administration celebrates its first 100 days in office. South Carolina GOP Chairman Drew McKissick expressed enthusiasm for Vance’s visit, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to securing the border, eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies, protecting women’s sports, and lowering inflation. He termed these efforts as part of the “Promises Made, Promises Kept” agenda.
Nucor Steel Berkeley has been a significant player in the region’s manufacturing sector, recently initiating a $425 million expansion that includes the addition of a new galvanizing line at its sheet steel mill. The facility employs a recycling-based steelmaking process to produce flat-rolled steel utilized in various applications, including automotive parts and building support structures.
Nucor operates nine facilities across South Carolina, contributing to the local economy while promoting sustainable practices in steel production. The upcoming visit from the Vice President and EPA Administrator underscores the administration’s focus on supporting American industries and advancing environmental initiatives in tandem.
As the Trump Administration marks its first 100 days, the event at Nucor Steel Berkeley will highlight both economic growth in manufacturing and the importance of sustainable practices in the steel industry.
