Spencer Carbery Named Finalist for Jack Adams Award

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – The NHL has announced that Spencer Carbery, the current head coach of the Washington Capitals and former head coach of the South Carolina Stingrays, is a finalist for the prestigious Jack Adams Award. This accolade is given annually to the coach who has significantly contributed to his team’s success, as determined by the NHL Broadcasters Association.

Carbery, 43, began his relationship with the Stingrays as a player in the 2009-10 season and later became an assistant coach before taking the helm as head coach. Over five years, he compiled a noteworthy record of 207-115-19-19, leading the Stingrays to multiple playoff appearances and winning the John Brophy Award for ECHL Coach of the Year in 2014.

In his second season with the Capitals, Carbery has led the team to an impressive 51-22-9 record, finishing first in both the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference. The Capitals recently advanced in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, marking their first series win since 2018.

Carbery is vying for the honor against Scott Arniel of the Winnipeg Jets and Martin St. Louis of the Montreal Canadiens. If he wins, Carbery may become the first coach to secure coach of the year awards in the NHL, AHL, and ECHL.
