Maryland Governor Wes Moore Stirs 2028 Speculation During South Carolina Tour
Wes Moore, the 46-year-old Maryland governor, is generating buzz regarding a potential presidential run in 2028 following his swift political ascent. Despite being a newcomer to political office, Moore has largely dismissed these speculations during his appearances.
Recently, he addressed attendees at the South Carolina Democratic Party’s Blue Palmetto dinner—a key fundraising event featuring prominent figures. In his speech, Moore emphasized affirmative leadership, stating, “Our job is not to simply go into hiding until there’s another election… We are choosing to lead on fighting child poverty, education, and economic growth.”
The governor’s itinerary during his visit also included attending Rep. Jim Clyburn’s famed annual fish fry. Clyburn’s backing was instrumental in President Joe Biden’s 2020 primary success. Moore highlighted his commitment to Clyburn, saying, “You do not say no to Mr. Clyburn.”

Moore critiqued those eyeing the 2028 race as being inattentive to the more immediate 2025 landscape, asserting that focusing on distant elections undermines present responsibilities.
Actor George Clooney, a staunch Democratic supporter, praised Moore, calling him an exceptional contender, citing his leadership during crises in Baltimore and his impressive resume, including military service and philanthropic work through the Robin Hood Foundation.
