South Carolina Baseball Falls to Florida in Series Opener
COLUMBIA – The South Carolina baseball team suffered a setback against Florida, losing 9-5 in the first game of their series at Ray Tanner Field. After a lengthy 3:04 rain delay, the Gamecocks started strong, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning fueled by hits from Blake Jackson, Henry Kazmar, Jordan Carrion, and Beau Hollins.
Florida clawed back in the third with a double from Luke Heyman. Hollins added to South Carolina’s score in the third, but the Gators exploded in the fourth and fifth, hitting a two-run homer, a solo shot, and a grand slam to take an 8-4 lead. Jase Woita hit his fifth home run of the season, bringing Carolina closer at 8-5 before Florida extended their lead with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Brandon Stone started for Carolina, tossing four innings with three strikeouts, while Jackson Soucie took the loss after allowing four earned runs. Woita and Kennedy Jones both had standout performances with three hits each, but the Gamecocks stranded 13 runners. The teams will meet again Saturday, May 3, at 1 p.m. in a game that will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
