South Carolina Men’s Tennis Advances to Super Regionals with Thrilling Win Over Florida State

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 13 South Carolina men’s tennis team pulled off a dramatic 4-3 victory against No. 20 Florida State in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament on Saturday, securing their fifth consecutive trip to the Super Regionals.

The match began on a challenging note for the Gamecocks, who lost the doubles point after the duo of Atakan Karahan and Jelani Sarr fell 6-2. Despite the setback, Sean Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer fought back to win their match 7-5, reducing Florida State’s lead.

Tension escalated during singles play, with the teams trading points. Connor Thomson leveled the score at 1-1 with a decisive 6-2, 6-1 victory. After a series of back-and-forth matches, Florida State appeared poised to clinch the win, leading 3-2. However, Karahan tied it again, forcing a deciding match on court 3, where Daryabeigi emerged victorious after a nail-biting finish with scores of 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.
