COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Florida Gators secured a dramatic 9-5 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks at Founders Park on Friday night, marking their first win at this venue since 2018.
The matchup was marked by a significant delay due to lightning, causing play to resume over three hours later. South Carolina jumped to an early 3-0 lead, with key hits from Henry Kaczmar and Jordan Carrion. However, Florida rallied back, igniting in the fourth inning when Hayden Yost hit a two-run homer to narrow the score.
The turning point came in the fifth as Luke Heyman tied the game with an impressive home run, followed by Ty Evans’ towering grand slam, propelling Florida to an 8-4 lead. South Carolina fought back with a solo shot from Jase Woita but could not overcome the deficit.
Closer Jake Clemente shone, securing his sixth save with three shutout innings. This win extended Florida’s winning streak to 11 of their last 13 games.
