VP JD Vance Champions Industrial Growth in South Carolina
HUGER, S.C. – Vice President JD Vance visited Nucor Steel in Huger on Thursday, celebrating the onset of an “industrial renaissance” in the United States, attributed to President Donald Trump’s policies aimed at bolstering domestic manufacturing. This event was part of the administration’s efforts to mark Trump’s first 100 days in office.
Addressing a crowd of several hundred workers and locals, Vance emphasized the pride seen in producing materials that drive America’s economy and improve citizens’ lives. “These are the products that make our citizens’ lives better,” he declared. Nucor, a major steel producer, has benefited from Trump’s tariff policies designed to protect American jobs, witnessing a 6% rise in stock prices following the tariffs.
CEO Leon Topalian reported to CNBC that Nucor’s order backlog is up 25% compared to last year, indicating positive economic signs. Vance, on his inaugural visit to South Carolina—an essential state in national GOP politics—took the opportunity to highlight local Republican figures like Lt. Gov. Pam Evette and Rep. Nancy Mace, both of whom have supported Trump and are expected to pursue the GOP gubernatorial nomination next year.
During the visit, Vance also addressed energy policies, advocating for “energy dominance” while assuring that increased manufacturing efforts would not compromise environmental safety. He declared, “We have started drill, baby, drilling,” promoting initiatives for cheaper gas and enhanced national self-reliance.
Though offshore drilling off South Carolina’s coast remains a contentious issue, Vance’s remarks came amidst a backdrop of ongoing political reshuffling in the Trump administration, including a recent national security advisory change. No comments were made by Vance regarding these developments.
