Gamecocks Clinch Super Regional Spot After Thrilling NCAA Victory
COLUMBIA, S.C. — In a gripping matchup at the Carolina Tennis Center, the 13th-ranked South Carolina men’s tennis team triumphed over No. 20 Florida State, clinching a 4-3 victory in the NCAA Tournament’s second round. This win marks their fifth consecutive appearance in the Super Regionals.
The Gamecocks faced an uphill battle after losing the doubles point but regained momentum in singles play. Sean Daryabeigi secured the clinching match with a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 win on court 3, contributing significantly to the team’s overall success.
In singles action, No. 18 Connor Thomson showcased his prowess by defeating FSU’s No. 14 Corey Craig decisively, earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Other key wins came from Atakan Karahan and Gabe Avram, further solidifying the Gamecocks’ position.
With a commendable record of 21-7 for the season, including an impressive 16-2 at home, South Carolina is poised for continued success.
