During a recent 25-hour “speak out,” participants criticized university leaders for acquiescing to federal demands, with student David Guirgis describing the cuts as an attack on academic freedom and scientific research. Columbia officials reaffirmed their commitment to innovation but acknowledged that the financial strain necessitated workforce adjustments.
To ensure long-term fiscal stability, the university plans to implement measures such as salary freeze across most positions, workforce attrition, and a voluntary retirement incentive program.
