University of South Carolina Baseball Team Struggles in Tough Week
COLUMBIA, SC – The University of South Carolina baseball team faced a challenging week, finishing with a 1-3 record. The Gamecocks managed to secure a victory against Charleston Southern midweek, but were swept in a three-game series by Florida over the weekend.
This brings the team’s overall record to 26-23, with a disheartening 5-19 record in the SEC. The Gamecocks now hold a home record of 21-10, but have struggled away, sporting a 4-11 mark.
Jarvis Evans Jr. shone in the midweek matchup, earning his fourth win of the season with a stellar performance against Charleston Southern. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing only two hits and no earned runs, contributing significantly to the team’s 5-3 victory.
KJ Scobey also provided a bright spot during the weekend series, hitting his fifth home run of the season on Saturday. He currently leads with 18 RBIs and has accumulated nine extra-base hits. Meanwhile, Blake Jackson demonstrated patience at the plate, reaching base five times in one game against Florida; his .452 on-base percentage indicates his growing impact on the lineup.
Looking ahead, the Gamecocks will not play midweek due to finals. They will return to action with a critical Thursday-Saturday series at Auburn. The opening game on May 8 will be broadcast on ESPNU, while the final game on May 10 will air on the SEC Network.
The Gamecocks will aim to bounce back from their recent defeats and improve their standing as they approach the end of the regular season.
