South Carolina Unveils APR Scores – University of South Carolina Athletics

University of South Carolina Athletics Achieves Academic Excellence

In a remarkable showcase of academic achievement, all countable intercollegiate sports at the University of South Carolina (USC) have posted a multiyear score of 950 or better in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) statistics released today.

Highlighting this success, USC achieved a total of 13 sports with a perfect single-year APR score of 1000 for the 2023-24 academic year. This is the second-highest record for Gamecock Athletics, just short of the 14 sports that achieved perfect scores in 2015-16. Impressively, 16 of the 18 measured sports either maintained or improved their APR scores from the previous year.

Of particular note, 11 of the 18 sports outperformed the national multiyear average, with the volleyball team achieving a flawless score for the 11th consecutive year. Beach volleyball also maintained a perfect APR score since the NCAA began tracking the sport.

Charlie Ball, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services, credited the student-athletes and the athletics department for their dedication to academic success. "For student-athletes, classroom achievement and graduation are crucial for long-term success following their athletic careers," Ball stated.

The APR serves as a point system that assesses student-athletes’ eligibility and retention over a four-year period. Programs scoring below the established threshold of 930 may face penalties.

In addition to academic accomplishments, USC student-athletes have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.47 for the Fall 2024 semester, marking 36 consecutive semesters with departmental GPAs above 3.0. The department recently recognized 108 student-athletes for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA.

As the USC community celebrates these achievements, the commitment to academic excellence continues to shine, enhancing both the university’s reputation and the future prospects of its student-athletes.
