Press Release: Bomb Threat Targeting Amy Coney Barrett’s Sister Sparks Investigation
Charleston, SC — A bomb threat directed at Amanda Coney Williams, the sister of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, has been confirmed by local police. Authorities responded on March 10 to a politically charged email warning that a pipe bomb had been placed in Williams’ mailbox. Fortunately, no device was recovered at her home.
According to the police report, the threatening email stated, “I’ve constructed a pipe bomb… The device’s detonation will be triggered as soon as the mailbox is next opened. Free Palestine!” The investigation is ongoing, with reports initially stating that Williams had received the email, though it was later clarified that she had not.
This disturbing incident occurs amidst rising threats against federal judges, reflecting an increasingly toxic political climate surrounding judicial decisions. Justice Barrett, nominated by former President Donald Trump, has faced scrutiny from various political factions, notably after her recent vote concerning foreign aid allocation. However, no direct link has been established between the threat to Williams and Barrett’s judicial actions.
In previous statements, Barrett indicated heightened security measures, including being sent home with a bulletproof vest, underscoring the serious nature of the threats judges are facing.
Investigators are also looking into reports that pizzas were ordered to multiple residences associated with Barrett over the previous weekend, a tactic some law enforcement officials interpret as intimidation.
The Supreme Court declined to comment on this incident, and further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
