Press Release: Newborn Boy Safely Surrendered in South Carolina
Georgetown County, SC – May 8, 2025 – A newborn baby boy was safely surrendered at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital under the provisions of Daniel’s Law, South Carolina’s Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act. The infant, born on Sunday, weighed 7 pounds and 4.4 ounces, measuring 20.1 inches long.
Following the surrender on Monday, the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) took custody of the child, who is now placed in a licensed foster home. This legislation provides a safe option for mothers in crisis to give up their infants without facing legal repercussions.
Georgetown County DSS has highlighted the importance of this act in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable infants. A permanency planning hearing is scheduled for June 25 at 9 a.m. at the Georgetown County Family Court located at 401 Cleland Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts within the community to support new families and ensure the safety of children. Citizens are encouraged to spread awareness about Safe Haven laws and the resources available to those in need.
