Plymouth’s Alter Technology Secures State Funding to Create Jobs

Alter Technology Expands in Plymouth, Boosting Local Jobs

Plymouth, MN – May 8, 2025 – Plymouth-based Alter Technology has announced plans to expand its operations with a significant investment in a new semiconductor testing facility. The company is allocating $4.5 million to set up state-of-the-art testing capabilities, bolstered by $275,000 in state job funds aimed at fostering job growth.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) awarded Alter Technology $175,000 from its Job Creation Fund, designed to support businesses meeting specific job creation and capital investment criteria. An additional $100,000 was granted through the Minnesota Investment Fund, which helps finance capital equipment to stimulate job growth and maintain high-quality employment. The expansion is projected to create 15 jobs in the first three years.

Alter Technology, a subsidiary of Germany’s TÜV Nord Group, specializes in testing high-reliability semiconductors that can endure extreme temperatures over extended periods. The company is considering leasing space at 15301 Highway 55 for its new facility, which will serve various industries, including aerospace, medical equipment, non-classified defense, and industrial markets.

DEED officials noted that this funding initiative contributes to a record year for job creation in Minnesota, having helped create or retain 4,750 jobs this fiscal year alone. "Setting a new record for DEED-assisted business expansions says a lot about Minnesota’s healthy business environment," stated DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek.

The expansion not only highlights the growth potential of Alter Technology but also underscores the commitment of Minnesota’s DEED and local businesses to strengthen the workforce and economy.
