Auburn Tigers Secure Dramatic Walk-Off Victory Against South Carolina
Auburn University’s baseball team is capping off its final home SEC series in style, following a commanding Thursday victory over South Carolina with another thrilling match on Friday night.
The game unfolded as a tightly contested battle, with South Carolina overcoming a 10-8 deficit by scoring in both the 8th and 9th innings, tying the game at 10-all heading into the bottom of the 9th. With the pressure on, Auburn’s offense quickly went to work, initiating a scoring opportunity through a hit by pitch, a groundout, and a single that set up runners on 1st and 3rd with just one out.
Third baseman Eric Guevara, who previously excelled with a double and a homer, executed a perfectly timed squeeze play, bunting the ball between the pitcher’s mound and first base. This allowed the winning run to cross the plate, marking Auburn’s first walk-off win since February and their second of the season.
This victory signifies Auburn’s third consecutive SEC series win, and they will aim for a clean sweep in the series finale against South Carolina. With one final home game against Jacksonville State before heading to Oxford to face Ole Miss, the Tigers look to build momentum as they approach the SEC Baseball Tournament and aspire for a College World Series appearance this summer.
