Rock Hill NAACP Organizes Town Hall for Voters in Response to Lindsey Graham’s Absence

Rock Hill NAACP Hosts Empty Chair Town Hall to Highlight Legislative Accountability

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Rock Hill NAACP is hosting an "Empty Chair Town Hall" to draw attention to what it describes as a lack of responsiveness from local legislators, particularly Senator Lindsey Graham and Representative Ralph Norman. Organizers say the empty chairs symbolize the refusal of these elected officials to engage with their constituents.

Despite repeated requests for a town hall meeting, Graham has not responded. During a recent press conference addressing wildfires in the Carolinas, protesters called out for a town hall, but Graham dismissed their pleas, stating, "I don’t need a town hall to know what to do."

To fill the void left by absent lawmakers, the Rock Hill NAACP has organized the Empty Chair Town Hall, aimed at discussing pressing local issues, hearing from candidates, and encouraging community participation. Attendees will have the opportunity to voice their concerns and discuss the issues affecting their lives.

The event is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16, at the Freedom Center in Rock Hill. In addition to the NAACP, several other organizations will be present, including the York County Democratic Party and York County Indivisible, emphasizing a collective community effort to push for accountability from their elected representatives.

As constituents continue to wrestle with unaddressed concerns, the Rock Hill NAACP hopes this initiative will not only engage voters but also send a clear message to legislators about the importance of listening to the voices of their communities.
