Gastops Ltd. Secures Multi-Million-Dollar Investment from RTX to Innovate Oil Monitoring Technology
OTTAWA, ON, May 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Gastops Ltd. has announced a significant joint agreement under Canada’s Industrial and Technology Benefits (ITB) policy, securing a multi-million-dollar investment from RTX to enhance oil debris monitoring (ODM) systems. This funding aims to drive research and development for advanced technology tailored for Pratt & Whitney military engines, a subsidiary of RTX.
Shaun Horning, Gastops’ President and CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “The ITB investment and engineering cooperation with Pratt & Whitney are pivotal for our ongoing development of next-generation monitoring technologies.” This partnership not only accelerates Canadian innovation but also expands Gastops’ technological capabilities.
Gastops has been instrumental in Pratt & Whitney’s engine diagnostics since the early 1990s with their MetalSCAN ODM sensors, which were first utilized in the F119 engine that powers the F-22 Raptor. Over the years, this technology has been adopted in various Pratt & Whitney developments, with discussions underway to extend their collaboration to further military engine programs.
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, highlighted the significance of this investment: “It’s now more important than ever to build Canada’s defence industry. This investment will foster innovation within the sector while generating economic growth and high-value job opportunities for Canadians.”
