Revitalizing Democratic Engagement in South Carolina and California

Walz Energizes Democrats at State Conventions Ahead of Potential 2028 Bid

Minneapolis, MN – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is set to rally Democratic activists at state conventions in South Carolina and California this Saturday, bolstering his national profile following his selection as Kamala Harris’s vice presidential running mate for the 2024 election.

Walz, a former schoolteacher and congressman, will keynote the South Carolina convention in Columbia, a significant platform for Democrats as the first presidential primary state in 2024. In a nod to his leadership style, the South Carolina Democratic Party described him as someone who "governs with both heart and backbone." His message resonates amid ongoing debates within the party regarding its future direction following their recent electoral losses.

In addition to South Carolina, Walz will speak at the California Democratic Convention in Anaheim on the same day. California Democratic Party Chair Rusty Hicks praised Walz for his commitment to working families and shared values of fairness and dignity.

While Walz hasn’t made any official announcements about seeking a third gubernatorial term in 2026 or a 2028 presidential run, he has left the door open to both possibilities. In a recent interview, he indicated he would decide on his gubernatorial future after the Minnesota Legislature finalizes its budget, while signaling an interest in higher office if conditions align.

His recent travels have focused on connecting with constituents in battleground areas typically overlooked by Republicans. "I’ve been showing up where Republicans won’t,” he remarked, emphasizing his commitment to listening to the concerns of everyday voters.

As the Democratic Party continues to reassess its strategies, Walz’s role as a potential leader emerges clearer, paving the way for his ambitions and reaffirming his dedication to core Democratic values.
