South Carolina Track & Field Men Shine at NCAA East Regional
Jacksonville, Fla. (May 30, 2025) – The South Carolina Track & Field men’s team achieved significant success at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, securing multiple spots for the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Star jumper Theo Mudzengerere earned his second NCAA appearance, marking his first as a Gamecock. He set a new personal record with a remarkable 16.38m (53-9) jump, finishing first in the triple jump and now holds the fourth-best season mark in the NCAA. Mudzengerere’s performance solidifies his stature as one of the program’s top athletes.
In high jump, both Channing Ferguson and Nate Figgers reached the 2.15m (7-0.5) mark, qualifying them for the NCAA tournament. Ferguson, who also qualified in the long jump earlier in the competition, aims for All-American honors in both events for the second consecutive year. Figgers, making his NCAA debut, joins Ferguson on the list of qualifiers.
Additionally, throwers CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart are also set to represent the Gamecocks in the shot put after qualifying in a previous round.
As the men’s team celebrates their achievements, attention now turns to the women’s competition, which is set to conclude tomorrow with nine events, beginning with the triple jump and the high jump featuring Cameran Gist and Cheyla Scott at 2:30 p.m., leading up to the women’s 4x400m relay.
