Former Gamecocks in Major League Baseball: Mid-Season Performances
As South Carolina’s college baseball season concludes, several former Gamecocks are making waves in the Major Leagues. Here’s a mid-season update on five alumni making their mark.
Jonah Bride – Minnesota Twins
After a strong three-hit outing on May 19, Bride has struggled, going hitless in 13 at-bats. He is batting .250 with no home runs and three RBIs in 20 games.
Jordan Montgomery – Arizona Diamondbacks
Unfortunately, Montgomery will not play this season due to Tommy John surgery for a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. The 32-year-old had the worst season of his career in 2024, finishing 8-7 with a 6.23 ERA.
Carmen Mlodzinski – Pittsburgh Pirates
Mlodzinski started 1-4 with a 5.67 ERA but has improved in Triple-A, boasting a 3.95 ERA over two starts, striking out 15.
Clarke Schmidt – New York Yankees
Since returning from injury, Schmidt has gone 2-2 with a 3.95 ERA. His most recent start featured six shutout innings against the Angels.
Christian Walker – Houston Astros
After a slow start, Walker is showing improvement with a recent walk-off homer and has a .210 average, with seven home runs and 25 RBIs.
