Nonprofit Offers Comfort Food to Tornado Victims in Laurel County
LONDON, Ky. — In a heartwarming display of community support, out-of-state nonprofit Help After Disaster arrived in Laurel County this weekend to provide meals for victims impacted by a devastating EF-4 tornado that tore through the area earlier this month. Michael Johnson, the organization’s founder, expressed his commitment to helping others, stating, "Helping others is what’s like medicine for my soul."
The mobile kitchen, stationed in the parking lot of Wildcat Harley Davidson on E Hal Rogers Parkway, served comforting dishes such as pulled pork, baked beans, and macaroni salad, inviting residents to come together for a warm meal. Chris Minton from Wildcat Harley Davidson noted the emotional gravity of the situation, emphasizing the kindness of strangers who wish to lend a helping hand.
Local bands provided entertainment throughout the day, and Cromers Trucking contributed a semi-trailer for gathering donations. "The community spirit has helped a lot of people," Minton remarked, highlighting the outpouring of support and the reminder of neighborly care during tragic times. The mobile kitchen and live music will continue to serve the community on Sunday from 12 PM to 6 PM.
