Mass Shooting at Hickory House Party Leaves One Dead and Eleven Injured

HICKORY, N.C. – A violent shooting unfolded early Sunday morning at a house party in Hickory, resulting in one fatality and eleven injuries. The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. in a typically quiet residential neighborhood, with reports indicating that over 80 shots were fired.

Shawn Patrick Hood, a 58-year-old resident of Lenoir, was identified as the only fatality. Among the injured, some suffered serious gunshot wounds while others were hurt during the chaotic escape. Seven victims remained hospitalized Sunday, with at least one reported in critical condition.

Local authorities, including the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, believe multiple shooters were involved. Major Aaron Turk noted that deputies had responded to a noise complaint from the party just two hours prior; however, investigators do not consider this a motive for the attack.

The crime scene spanned approximately two acres, involving both outdoor and indoor locations. Law enforcement is actively seeking information from attendees and is being assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI’s specialized evidence response team. As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made.
