Former USC Star Tonka Hemingway Joins Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas, NV – After an impressive five-season career at the University of South Carolina, defensive lineman Tonka Hemingway has realized his childhood dream by being selected 33rd overall by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth round of the recent NFL Draft.
Reflecting on the moment he received the call, Hemingway described it as "surreal" and a testament to years of hard work paying off. Shortly after the draft, he traveled to Las Vegas to participate in rookie minicamps, where he reported he’s enjoyed the competition and is in the process of acclimating to his new environment. “It’s been fun and different being in a big city like Las Vegas," Hemingway noted, emphasizing his commitment to remain focused despite the excitement.
Hemingway credits his success to his time at South Carolina, where he faced and overcame various challenges, including injuries. He expressed gratitude for the guidance and support from his coaches, stating, “All my coaches at South Carolina helped me get to where I am today.”
As he gears up for training camp, Hemingway is embracing his new role with enthusiasm, keen to showcase his skills on the field. While he admits he has moments of “new swag,” he maintains a humble approach, staying grounded and prioritizing time management.
A lifelong sports fan, Hemingway has shifted allegiances from his family’s Cowboys fanaticism to become a proud member of the Raiders. "I can’t wait to go out there and show what I can do," he said, a sentiment reflecting not just his excitement for the NFL, but the culmination of his journey to this point.
