Coastal Low Forecasted to Bring Heavy Rain to Regions of South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – Weather Update: A Shift in Conditions

Today and tomorrow, South Carolina residents will experience a notable weather change, shifting from recent warm spells to cooler temperatures. Predicted highs will range from the upper 70s to low 80s under mostly cloudy skies. A developing low-pressure system off the southeast U.S. coast is expected to bring scattered showers and isolated storms, particularly impacting the Lowcountry. The Midlands could also see intermittent rain, primarily late today through tomorrow morning. Rainfall totals may reach up to 1" in some areas, especially closer to the coast.

As the low-pressure system drifts out to sea late Thursday, the rain is expected to dissipate, paving the way for dry and sunny conditions to return on Friday, with temperatures climbing to nearly 90 degrees. The weekend forecast suggests an increase in heat, with highs in the low 90s and heat index values soaring into the upper 90s. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms are anticipated on both Saturday and Sunday, with the potential for this daily storm threat to persist through much of next week. Residents are advised to stay updated on the evolving weather conditions.
