E. Coli Contamination Leads to Closure of Swimming Area at South Carolina Park

Press Release: Swimming Area at Ebenezer Park Closed Due to High E. Coli Levels

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The swimming area at Ebenezer Park has been temporarily closed after routine water testing revealed elevated levels of E. coli. York County officials announced the closure on Wednesday, stating that the area will remain off-limits "until further notice" as they await results from additional testing.

E. coli is a type of bacteria, most strains of which are harmless; however, certain strains can lead to serious health issues, including diarrhea, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and sepsis. While the specific strain detected has not been disclosed, officials assure the public that further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Ebenezer Park, located on Lake Wylie in the India Hook area, is a popular destination for local swimmers and families. County officials are urging the public to stay informed and adhere to safety measures until the swimming area is deemed safe for use again.

Stay tuned for updates from York County as they continue to monitor the situation and conduct further testing.
