University of South Carolina Baseball Players Honored with Academic All-District Awards
COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina is celebrating the academic achievements of its baseball team, as three student-athletes have been recognized in the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. Matthew Becker, Parker Marlatt, and Ethan Petry received this prestigious distinction, with Petry set to advance to the Academic All-America ballot, where the All-America teams will be revealed on July 1.
This recognition highlights the strong academic performance of the Gamecocks, as all three players have excelled in their studies, consistently making the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll or the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll. Notably, Becker has earned Academic All-District honors for the third consecutive year, while Petry secures the accolade for the second straight season.
To qualify for the Academic All-District team, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50. Graduate students must also uphold a 3.50 GPA across both undergraduate and graduate studies. Furthermore, student-athletes need to compete in 90% of their institution’s games or start in at least 66%. For pitchers, requirements include making 17 appearances or pitching a minimum of 25 innings. Each institution is limited to a maximum of five student-athletes on the Academic All-District list.
These achievements underscore the commitment of the University of South Carolina’s baseball program not only to athletic excellence but also to academic integrity. The recognition of Becker, Marlatt, and Petry serves as an inspiration to their peers and exemplifies the balance between academics and athletics at the university level.
