Rising Gas Prices Hit South Carolina Amid Israel-Iran Tensions
LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WCIV) — Gas prices in South Carolina have surged significantly, with averages climbing 13.7 cents per gallon in just the past week, driven by escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. As of Monday, the average price at the pump stood at approximately $2.83 per gallon, according to GasBuddy, which surveyed over 3,000 stations across the state. While prices have risen by 8.2 cents since last month, they remain 23.1 cents lower than a year ago. The lowest gas price in the state was reported at $2.40, while the highest reached $3.09, highlighting a 69-cent difference.
Nationally, gas prices also rose, albeit marginally, with the average hitting $3.08, influenced by oil prices reaching multi-month highs. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, warned that continued conflicts in the Middle East could predictably lead to further hikes, possibly ranging from 10 to 20 cents per gallon in the weeks ahead. He urged motorists to stay prepared for potential price fluctuations as the situation develops.
